Kvapil Looking to Reignite Momentum

Prior to Martinsville, Travis Kvapil was riding a streak of three consecutive top-25 finishes. Had it not been for a melted plug wire, he’d most likely be looking for his fifth straight top-25 this weekend at Texas Motor Speedway. The driver of the No. 93 BK Racing Toyota is optimistic about renewing the string of good performances in this weekend’s AAA Texas 500 and putting an exclamation point on the season.

Dr Pepper is returning as the primary sponsor on Kvapil’s Toyota Camry this weekend. The paint scheme should receive a warm reception from the Lone Star State. The soft drink was founded in Waco, Texas, in 1885 and its corporate offices are in Plano, Texas, about 25 miles north of Dallas.

Kvapil has 10 previous Cup Series starts at Texas. His best finish is 18th place, which came in 2008. In his last race there, he started 37th and finished 38th. In his 12 Truck Series starts at the 1.5-mile oval, he has one win (2001), five top-five and seven top-10 finishes.

Comments from BK Racing Driver Travis Kvapil heading into Texas:

“This should be a good weekend for us. We had a tough time last time we were at Texas, but we’ve made a lot of progress at intermediate tracks since then. We had really good runs at Kansas and Charlotte, finished inside the top 25 at each one. We also had good runs at Kentucky and Atlanta. We’ve definitely figured a few things out and should have a pretty good package to get us started this weekend. Hopefully we’ll unload a quick Dr Pepper Toyota and get another solid finish.

“I really like racing at Texas. I have a pretty good feel for the place and had some success there, so I feel like this could be a good weekend for us. The track is always a lot of fun to drive. It seems like as the race goes on, the second groove works itself in and you start seeing some side-by-side racing. The speeds are definitely fast.

“We’ve only got a few races left and this will be a good chance for us to put an exclamation point on the season. We’ve improved a lot and made a lot of advancements this season. It’s been a good season for us, especially considering where we started from in February, so it would be great to leave Texas with a top-20 finish and have some momentum on our side for the final races.”
