Almirola Wants Rematch with Monster after Taking 6th in June

Aric Almirola scored his best finish of the season at Dover (Del.) International Speedway in June, and he’s been itching to return ever since.  Driving the No. 43 Super 8 Ford Fusion for this weekend’s second date with the “Monster Mile,” Almirola will look to improve on that season-best sixth-place finish, and possibly earn his first trip to Victory Lane in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.

Almirola has visited Victory Lane at Dover in the Camping World Truck Series and thinks this No. 43 team is capable of sending him back.  After his top-10 run at the one-mile oval in June, Almirola will be aiming high in Sunday’s AAA 400.

The team will be easy to follow with its bright new paint scheme.  The No. 43 Ford will sport the yellow and red colors of Super 8 for this first time this season.  Super 8 is upping the ante in its Road Trip Challenge Sweepstakes this month to include additional cash prizes of $1,000 or $250 if Almirola wins or finishes in the top 10, respectively, in Sunday’s race.

Comments from Super 8 Ford Fusion Driver Aric Almirola:

“I’ve been eager to get back to Dover ever since we left the first time earlier this year.  We just had a really great run and came away with our best finish of the season, still, to date.  Heck, there was even a point late in that race where I thought we could win.  And I think we can go back and do that.  I’ve won there in a truck, and Todd’s won there, and it’s a track that I just really like and am really comfortable on.  And we’ve learned more since the first race in June, so I can’t wait to get back there, apply what we’ve learned, and see if we can get the No. 43 in Victory Lane.

“Super 8 has been a part of the Petty organization for a long time and they’re a great business partner to work with.  Our team stays at their hotels quite a bit and they always take care of us.  I like our chances of running up front this weekend and getting that Super 8 paint scheme some attention.”

Comments from Crew Chief Todd Parrott on Dover:

“This team will go to Dover with a lot of confidence because Aric ran so well there last time.  And the ‘9’ team finished in the top 10 also, so it’s a good track for RPM as a whole.  The June race was Aric’s first time there in a Cup car, so he didn’t even really know what he needed to make the car better throughout the race because it was still new to him.  And he still finished sixth.  Now, going back, he’s got more knowledge about the track and what feels right from the driver’s seat.  So I think we can put him in a better position to be competitive earlier in the race so he can be up front when it counts at the end.”
