BK Racing Martinsville Speedway Race Report

Travis Kvapil

No. 93 BK Racing Toyota

Start – 34th

Finish – 27th

Laps – 495/500

Status – Running

  • Ryan Newman earned the win in a race that was filled with late-race cautions and two attempts at a green-white-checkered finish.
  • The No. 93 BK Racing started the race off tight in the corners and crew chief Todd Anderson made adjustments during the first several pit stops to remedy the tight handling condition.
  • Just before the half way point of the race, Kvapil let the team know that the adjustments made to the car had helped.
  • Kvapil reported a tire losing air just before spinning at lap 361. He made minimal contact with the outside wall and continued to the pits.
  • Kvapil ran inside the top 30 for much of the event.
  • The No. 93 team is now tied for 29th in the owner point standings, only three points out of 27th place.

Kvapil’s Thoughts After the Race: “Our BK Racing/Dr. Pepper Toyota started the race off tight in the corners, but Todd made some good changes during the first couple of pit stops and that really helped the handling of the car. We were really pretty decent for the last half of the race and I’m really proud of how hard everyone on this team worked all weekend. We made a lot of progress over the course of the weekend. We just need to keep building off of that heading into Texas.”

Landon Cassill

No. 83 BK Racing Toyota

Start – 31st

Finish – 29th

Laps – 492/500

Status – Running

  • Cassill and crew worked through a tight handling condition for much of the 515-lap event.
  • The No. 83 crew made air pressure and chassis adjustments throughout the event in an effort to help the BK Racing/Dr. Pepper Toyota turn better in the middle of the corners.
  • The No. 83 team picked up one position in the owner point standings. The team is now in 35th place, which locks them in to qualify for the next race at Texas Motor Speedway.

Cassill’s Thoughts After the Race: “Martinsville is a tough track. The Burger King/Dr. Pepper Toyota was tight in the center and off the corners all day and there were so few cautions in the early stages of the race that we didn’t have that many opportunities to make changes. We went in knowing that we needed to drive a clean race and get to the finish and we did that. That puts us back in the top 35 in points for Texas and that’s what the goal for the day was.”

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will take a well-deserved break next weekend, but will be back on track at Texas Motor Speedway in Denton, Texas for a Saturday night race on April 14. The action under the lights will begin at 7:30 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on FOX, PRN and Sirius Satellite Radio.
