Carl Edwards won the pole for Sunday’s Bad Boy Off Road 300 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Friday. Edwards posted a 28.119, 135.453 mph. lap time around the 1.058-mile oval. Edwards will start on the pole for the 22nd time of his Sprint Cup Series career.
Martin Truex Jr., who won the opening Chase race last weekend at Chicagoland Speedway, will start right beside Edwards in the No. 78 Denver Mattress Chevrolet. The New Jersey native posted a 28.169, 135.212 mph. lap time in the final round of Sprint Cup Series qualifying. Truex enters the weekend with three wins, six top five and 13 top 10 finishes through 27 races in 2016.
Rounding out the top three will be Ryan Newman in the No. 31 Caterpillar Chevrolet. Newman will be the highest non-Chase driver in the starting field after posting a 28.235, 134.896 mph. lap in the final round of qualifying. The Indiana native has three victories at New Hampshire.
Reigning Sprint Cup Series champion Kyle Busch will start 12th. Busch, a native of Las Vegas, posted a 28.803, 133.445 mph. lap in the final round of knockout qualifying. The veteran racer looks to capture his fifth win of the year.
Caution was displayed once in the first round for the No. 15 of Clint Bowyer. Bowyer was able to continue the session. There were no DNQ’s as 40 drivers appeared on the weekend entry list.
