NASCAR Issues Warnings and Penalties Following Michigan and Road America

A number of Sprint Cup Series teams were popped with written warnings over the weekend at Michigan International Speedway. The No. 2, 7, 31 and 95 teams failed LIS twice during pre-race inspection. The No. 30 and 95 Sprint Cup Series teams were issued warnings for failing LIS three times during pre-qualifying inspection. Failing LIS twice during pre-qualifying inspection were the No. 5, 24 and 46 Sprint Cup Series teams. The No. 6, 7 and 42 Sprint Cup Series teams were also issued warnings after failing the template inspection before qualifying.

None of the teams above were issued penalties because they were all caught early enough.

The No. 2 Sprint Cup Series team driven by Brad Keselowski failed post-race laser inspection following the Pure Michigan 400. Crew chief Paul Wolfe has been fined $15,000. The team will also lose 10 driver and owner points as a result. Wolfe will not be placed on NASCAR probation.

The NASCAR XFINITY Series went road course racing at Road America. The No. 18 was the only warning issued in the series over the weekend for failing LIS twice during pre-race inspection.

NASCAR issued a $5,000 fine to Spencer Gallagher for approaching the racing surface or apron during the event. There were no written warnings issued over the weekend in the Camping World Truck Series.
