Roush Yates Engines and Ford Performance Power Joey Logano to the Eliminator Round

Roush Yates Engines and Ford Performance Powered Joey Logano to the Chase win at Charlotte Motor Speedway, punching his ticket into the Eliminator Round. The win is Logano’s third career Chase win and fourth victory of the 2015 NASCAR Sprint Cup season. Logano now has 12 overall NASCAR Sprint Cup Series wins.

“What a great car,” said Logano, “You always want to win at Charlotte, It’s everyone’s home turf, everyone lives around here, the race shops are around here, so to be able to win here is a special thing to knock off the bucket list.”

With Mother Nature raining out the Bank of America 500 on Saturday night, the race was held on Sunday. Logano lead the race for the first time on lap 77.  After pit stops on lap 128, he would regain the lead, leading another 103 laps. On lap 242, he was back out front pacing the field. Logano would power to the front one last time on lap 300, to lead a race high 227 of the 334 laps at Charlotte, in-route to his first career victory at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

“Todd made great calls,” said Logano, “The pit crew was on top of it today. They’ve really been incredible most of this year, so it’s special to have a perfect day in racing. You don’t have that very often.”

Logano automatically advances to the Eliminator Round with the win, becoming the first Sprint Cup Series driver qualified for round three. Logano now leads the Sprint Cup Series standings by 6 points. It was Logano’s 24th Top 10 finish of 2015 proving consistency is key to staying at the top of the point standings.

“It is a great feeling to win at our home track with Team Penske,” said Doug Yates, President & CEO of Roush Yates, “To win the first race of the Contender Round with Joey and have him automatically qualify for the Eliminator Round is a big accomplishment. He had a strong car all day. Roush Yates Engines has now recorded its 250th win across the four National Series.  This is a great achievement for our team and one we take great pride in.”

Logano won the first race of the Contender Round last year at Kansas, which is the next Sprint Cup Series event on the 2015 schedule. The first race for the Eliminator Round starts at Martinsville followed by Texas then Phoenix. The final race of the year is at Homestead–Miami Speedway on Sunday, November 22nd.
