LFR will host 14-year-old Camp 95 Alum at Charlotte race

Leavine Family Racing, a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race team, will be joined by a special guest at Charlotte Motor Speedway, as CAMP 95 alum Joe Redmond will be with the team on race day (Sat. Oct. 10).

Redmond, a 14-year-old Albuquerque, N.M. native, earned the chance to attend the race with the team by winning an essay contest following his CAMP 95 experience this summer.  Leavine Family Racing created CAMP 95 to allow high school students the opportunity to explore the many career options available in NASCAR.

“CAMP 95 validated my dream of being a part of the broader team as a crew chief, car chief or a team engineer,” Joe wrote in his essay.  “These jobs are a perfect combination of science of racing and hands-on mechanical skills.”

Redmond, who attends the 9th grade at La Cueva High School, will shadow a variety of NASCAR crew members to gain a better understanding of their jobs at the race track and the different roles on a race team.

Redmond is not a stranger to Charlotte Motor Speedway, as he has previously raced at the track in a Bandoleros racing series. While he does have experience as a driver, Redmond’s ultimate goal is to one day become either a crew chief, car chief, or team engineer.

The Bank of America 500 will take place on Saturday, Oct. 10 at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, N.C.  Leavine Family Racing fields the No. 95 Thrivent Ford Fusion driven by Michael McDowell.
