NSCS: Bristol Motor Speedway Preview

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series heads to the Bristol Motor Speedway for the 55th annual Food City 500 in Support of Steve Byrnes. The event will serve as the eighth stop on the series calendar in 2015.

The entry list features 45 different drivers, meaning two of those will go home. Some of the changes include Ron Hornaday, Mike Bliss, Alex Kennedy, Brendan Gaughan, Matt DiBenedetto and Michael McDowell. Ron Hornaday Jr. and Brendan Gaughan must qualify inside the top 36 in order to make the race on Sunday.

Carl Edwards, who captured the victory last season with Roush Fenway Racing at Bristol, will try his luck this weekend to score his first victory with the Joe Gibbs Racing team. Edwards led 78 of the 500 laps for his third victory at the 0.533-mile oval.

Three drivers go into the Bristol Motor Speedway weekend with seven top 10 finishes through the first seven races. Kevin Harvick, Joey Logano and Martin Truex Jr. all sit inside the top three in points. Joey Logano comes into the track with momentum after taking the win in the fall race. Harvick, meanwhile, has not had a top 10 finish there since 2011. Truex finished inside the top 10 only twice in 18 starts. His best finish was a runner-up in 2011.

Kevin Harvick comes into the weekend with a 26-point lead over Joey Logano. Martin Truex Jr. sits third with a 14-point gap behind Logano, who scored the victory in the Daytona 500. Truex sits 40 points behind the point leader. Rounding out the top five includes Brad Keselowski and Kasey Kahne.

You can watch the race this weekend live on FOX at 1:00 p.m. Et. The Performance Racing Network will carry the live radio broadcast of the event.
