Truex slowed by early race accident, rebounds to finish race at Darlington

Ryan Truex and the No. 83 Borla Exhaust Toyota Camry team finished 40th at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway on Saturday evening.  The BK Racing team was temporarily sidelined by a right front tire failure early in the race, but was able to return to competition and pick up a couple additional positions prior to the checkered flag.

Competing in his first Sprint Cup Series event at the track labeled “too tough to tame,” Truex rolled off 39th for the prestigious Southern 500.  Shortly after the green flag, Truex radioed his team to report a tight handling condition and a front tire chatter in the center of the turns.  The problem escalated causing Truex to suffer a flat right front tire just 42 laps in to the event.  With hard contact with the turn 2 wall, the Borla Exhaust team was the first of many to fall victim to a flat right front tire.  The heavy contact resulted in suspension damage, which caused the No. 83 team to report immediately to the garage to make repairs.  After spending over 80 laps in the garage area, Truex was able to return to the track.

Focused on making laps and regaining as much ground as possible, Truex was able to cross the finish line in the 40th position.

“It’s unfortunate that our Borla Exhaust team had the problem that we had tonight,” commented Truex.  “A lot of teams suffered tire problems, and unfortunately we were the first to fall victim to the issue.  My BK Racing team worked really hard in the garage to get the car fixed, and we went back on track to regain as much ground as possible.  I’m proud of our effort and for not giving up.  I’m looking forward to getting back on another short track at Richmond (Va.) International Raceway in a couple weeks-it should be a lot of fun.”
