Marcos Ambrose heads into Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway looking for the speed he found last year when the team qualified on the outside pole for the Coca-Cola 600. His efforts led to an all- Richard Petty Motorsports front row.
Ambrose has eight starts in point races at Charlotte. He tallied two top-10 finishes and a best finish of fifth with Richard Petty Motorsports in 2011. In last season’s Coca-Cola 600, a broken wheel hub ended the team’s hopes of finishing up front.
Fans will have many opportunities to meet Ambrose this week. The Australian native will participate in the fifth annual King’s Cup – Karting for A Cause to raise money for the Paralyzed Veterans of America tonight at Victory Lane Karting. He will also participate in RPM Fan Appreciation Day Thursday, May 23 at the RPM shop. He will be on-hand to sign autographs from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. Wrist bands will be distributed at 8 a.m.

“We had a really strong car last year, and I think we can have one again this weekend. We had the All-Star race to learn some things about the car, and we are making some changes that will help. I think we’ll be able to find the speed we need to have a good weekend.
“This is a long race, so we just need to keep fighting like we have been. It’s important to keep up with the changing track conditions. Our crew has worked hard each race to battle back each week. We will have to stay focused and keep making good adjustments. You chase your car and chase the track. If you can stay on top of it, you’ll have a good finish.”

“We were fast with this car in Texas, so I’m confident we will have speed this weekend. We were a little off in the All-Star race, but we gathered a lot of information that we can use this weekend. I expect to be fast off the truck, and hopefully, we can get another all RPM front row for the race. We have continued to show speed at the mile-and-a-half tracks but haven’t had the finishes to show for it. But each week our team has worked hard to bounce back from adversity and that is what the Coca-Cola 600 is all about.”
