Raceway Celebrates 25th Running of NASCAR Racing in Sonoma in 2013

The raceway in Sonoma will celebrate the 25th running of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series racing in Sonoma at the Toyota/Save Mart 350 in 2013.

The official race weekend date was released by NASCAR as June 21-23; this marks NASCAR’s only visit to Northern California for the 2013 race season.

It will truly be a very special weekend as the raceway celebrates its 25th running of NASCAR. Legendary driver Ricky Rudd took the checkers in the inaugural event on June 11, 1989 with a memorable last-lap duel with Rusty Wallace. Rudd took the victory by just .05 seconds, which still stands as the closest margin of victory for a NASCAR Cup race in Sonoma.

Clint Bowyer took the checkers in 2012 for his first-ever NASCAR Cup win in Sonoma, making him the eighth different winner in eight years on the 1.99-mile, 10-turn circuit. The road-course race has certainly become one of the most exciting on schedule, highlighted by plenty of on-track action and raised tempers.

Race fans will be treated, once again, to the only air show on the NASCAR circuit during pre-event ceremonies on Sunday, June 23. The Patriots Jet Team Air Show, which boasts an all-volunteer team and is the only six-jet civilian demonstration team in the country, will rock the skies above the raceway with a 25-minute show.
