Kentucky Chapter of Speedway Children’s Charities to Host 3rd Annual Night of Giving

In March of this year, a mother contacted Society of St. Vincent de Paul’s call center, requesting assistance for her family. She, her husband and their three children had been homeless for fourteen months, had lived in their van during this time and had lost everything with the exception of some clothing and personal belongings. Through its different programs, the organization was able to provide beds for the children, food for the family and additional furniture and houseware items for their new apartment.

Providing the beds was a result of Speedway Children’s Charities (SCC) awarding $10,000 in grant funding to Society of St. Vincent de Paul and its Sweet Dreams Bed Program. As a result of the funding, 92 children in Northern Kentucky now have a warm bed to sleep in each night. Previously, these children had been sleeping in deplorable conditions, directly impacting their brain development and emotional regulation. Well-rested children perform better academically, have more energy and are more likely to have emotional stability, as is the case with the three children whose mother made that important call last spring.

This is only one example of the programs and organizations the Kentucky Chapter of SCC supports. On Tuesday, December 6, 2016, SCC will host its 3rd Annual Night of Giving, which is a celebration of the chapter’s annual opportunity to provide grant funding to local non-profit children’s organizations in the community.

With help from corporate partners, volunteers, board members, local communities and race fans throughout the region, the Kentucky Chapter is honored to award almost $82,000 in funding this fiscal year, identifying the following twenty organizations in Kentucky, Ohio and Indiana as grant recipients:
  • Buckhorn Children and Family Services (Buckhorn, KY)
