Teresa Gabor, Kevin Pitt to Serve as Honorary Officials for fred’s 250 Powered by Coca-Cola, Oct. 22

Talladega Superspeedway track officials announced today the Honorary Starter and Grand Marshal, as well as the National Anthem performers, for the first-ever NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) Chase elimination race, the fred’s 250 Powered by Coca-Cola, on Saturday, Oct. 22.

fred’s Pharmacy, headquartered in Memphis, Tennessee, with more than 650 locations throughout the southeastern United States, will have Teresa Gabor, senior vice president of merchandising, serving as Grand Marshal. She will give the most famous command in motorsports – “Drivers, Start Your Engines” – prior to the start of the scheduled 94-lap event. Serving as Honorary Starter and bringing the field to the green flag to start Saturday’s race will be Kevin Pitt, regional vice president.

Gabor (left), from Coldwater, MS, has been with fred’s for 20 years and is responsible for several areas in merchandising. Pitt (right) is responsible for covering Alabama, Georgia, Florida and South Carolina for fred’s Pharmacy and has been with the company for 13 years.

The inaugural fred’s 250 Powered by Coca-Cola took place in 2006, and multiple year winners of the NCWTS include Timothy Peters (2014, 2015), Kyle Busch (2009, 2010) and Todd Bodine (2007, 2008). 

Singing the National Anthem prior to the fred’s 250 Powered by Coca-Cola is The Sweet Tea Trio, a group of three young ladies hailing from three different parts of Alabama – Victoria Camp, Savannah Coker and Kate Falcon. The trio will bring a blend of southern charm and bluegrass with a little bit of country twang to the stage. The trio have recently been named the 2016 Alabama Female Country Artists of the Year by the Alabama Music Awards.

The fred’s 250 Powered by Coca-Cola will have a contested battle for the title as it serves as a cut-off race in the inaugural NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Chase. At race’s conclusion, six of eight eligible drivers will move on in the next round (Round of 6). By virtue of a win, William Byron is the only driver who has locked himself into the Round of 6.

Saturday’s schedule also includes qualifying for the fred’s 250 Powered by Coca-Cola (9:30 a.m. CDT) and Foodland/Food Giant Qualifying at 3 p.m. CDT for Sunday’s Hellmann’s 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race. The fred’s 250 Powered by Coca-Cola is set to get the green flag at noon CDT. The day concludes in the evening with the traditional Saturday Night Infield Concert, featuring Nashville country star Jerrod Niemann with Tim Dugger and DJ Michaelis rocking the stage beginning at 7:15 p.m. CDT.

The elimination drama continues during Sunday’s Hellmann’s 500, as it will serve as the final race in the Round of 12 in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup where the field of 12 eligible drivers for the championship will be trimmed to eight at the checkered flag. Virtually no driver is safe from being eliminated except for Jimmie Johnson and Kevin Harvick who have guaranteed a spot in the Round of 8 after their Round of 12 triumphs. The Hellmann’s 500 is set for a 1:00 p.m. CDT start.
