Lonesome Pine Raceway Closing out the 2016 the Saturday

The 2016 season will come to a close this Saturday, Sept. 3 at Lonesome Pine Raceway.

Pepsi of Norton Championship Night will bring the season across the finish line with a full night of racing, the crowning of champions and fireworks.

Wayne Hale, the 2015 Late Model Stock Car champion, currently leads the championship standings. Hale has eight wins on the season and has finished no worse than third in 15 starts.

With a lead of 68 points heading into Saturday’s twin features, Hale has officially clinched the title for the second year in a row.

Elby Harrison, Rob Austin and Chris Tunnell all remain mathematically in reach of the Modified Street championship. Harrison leads by seven points over Austin and Tunnell trails by 29 points.

Father and son duo John and Jason Ketron remain locked in battle for the Pure 4 title. John Ketron leads by only two points over his son Jason Ketron. At 24 points behind, William Hale could also take the division title home.

Rocky Yates is a champion once again this season. At 49 points to the good, Yates has now taken the Mod 4 championship for back-to-back seasons.

The closest championship battle remains to be in the Pure Street division. Doug Austin presently leads the standings but trailing in second place is Jamie Meadows. Austin leads by just a single point over Meadows.

Austin has five wins on the season and Meadows has two.

Nine-year-old Blaine Harrison has dominated the Bandeleros division this season. Harrison has officially claimed the division’s title with a lead of 96 points and six wins on the season.

Highlighting the final night of NASCAR Whelen All-American Series racing will be the Late Model Stock Car division. The division will take on the high banks for twin 35-lap features.

Modified Street, Pure 4, Mod 4, Pure Street and Bandeleros will also help to bring the season to a close.

And if the full card of racing isn’t enough, “The Pine” will also have a phenomenal fireworks display after the final checkered flag of the evening.

Saturday is going to be a great night to close out the 2016 season,” said Karen Tunnell, Lonesome Pine Raceway general manager and promoter. “We can’t wait to see everyone there for the final race and the crowning of our track champions.”

Grandstand gates open Saturday at 4 p.m., qualifying is at 6 p.m. and racing begins at 7 p.m. The fireworks display will follow the last race of the evening.

Adult admission is $10 and children age 12 and under are admitted free of charge.

Open practice is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 2 from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. Grandstand admission for Friday’s open practice is free.
