The upgrades continue at Daytona International Speedway.
Riding the momentum of this year’s debut of the $400 million “DAYTONA Rising” project that transformed the Speedway into the world’s only motorsports stadium, the new home of the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America (MSHFA) will officially open at DIS on Sunday, July 3, and become an integral part of the speedway’s tour packages.
The MSHFA has moved from its previous longtime home in Novi, Michigan and is now housed in the DIS Ticket and Tours Building, showcasing spectacular displays honoring all forms of motorsports: Stock Cars, Sports Cars, Open-Wheel, Motorcycles, Drag Racing, Land Speed Records, Powerboating and Aviation.
Classic machines from those competitive arenas highlight the hall, along with bronze sculptures of all 230 MSHFA inductees, including a special shrine to the most recent seven individuals who will be inducted on Wednesday night at The Shores Resort & Spa, during the 28th Annual Induction Ceremony Presented by Bridgestone.
Tuesday night, the new MSHFA facility will host its first event, the annual “Heroes of Horsepower” Inductee Reception Presented by Pirelli. That event will feature unveiling of the bronze sculptures of 2016 inductees Everett Brashear, Richard Childress, Gary Gabelich, Chip Ganassi, Dave McClelland, Sam Posey and Bob Sweikert.
“The Motorsports Hall of Fame of America is a perfect fit for Daytona International Speedway,” said DIS President Chip Wile. “This particular hall of fame has a true international flavor, which was one of the original goals Bill France Sr. had for DIS when it opened in 1959. The fact that many past champions of the DAYTONA 500, Rolex 24 At Daytona, Daytona Supercross By Honda and Daytona 200 are among the hall’s 230 inductees only adds to the great synergy between Daytona International Speedway and the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America.”
DIS offers three tour experiences. The Speedway Tour, All-Access Tour and the VIP Tour which includes a visit to the ISC Archives and Research Center. Ticket prices are as follows:
- Speedway Tour – $18 adults, $12 children 6-12
- All-Access Tour – $25 adults, $19 kids 6-12
- VIP Tour – $52
