Racing, Fireworks highlight Fourth of July Weekend

Fireworks and a full night of racing will send the Fourth of July weekend into high gear this Saturday at Lonesome Pine Raceway.

As in many years past, the Independence Day weekend promises to be a great event at the 0.375-mile oval. Seven divisions will be in action for a total of eight races and nearly 190 laps of racing.

The night will feature twin 35-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model Stock Car races. Modified Street, Pure 4, Mod 4, Pure Street and Bandeleros will be in action, as well.

Following the action-packed racing, the sky will light up with a spectacular fireworks display over turn three.

“Our July 4th show is always a great night of racing and the fireworks just add to it,” said Karen Tunnell, general manager of Lonesome Pine Raceway. “It’s certainly going to be a treat for race fans all around.”

Grandstand gates open at 4 p.m. Saturday, qualifying begins at 6 p.m. and the green flag is set to wave at 7 p.m. Adult grandstand admission is $10, with children 12-and-under admitted free.

Saturday isn’t the first day of racing in the area this week, though. Sister track Kingsport (Tennessee) Speedway kicks the weekend off on Friday night with over 200 laps of racing, fireworks, a stunt show, and an autograph session. Racing begins at 8 p.m. Friday night.
