Kingsport Speedway set to thorw the green flag on summer

Kingsport Speedway is set to throw the green flag on the first official weekend of summer this Friday, June 24 with Food City Night at the Races.

The night full of NASCAR Whelen All-American Series racing will feature the Late Model Stock Car division for 60 laps. Street Stock, Pure 4, Mod 4, Pure Street and Legend Cars will also be making high-speed left turns. The Pure 4 division will feature two races, each being 15 laps. 

2014 track champion Kres VanDyke currently leads the way in the Late Model Stock Car division point standings by just 14 points over Wayne Hale. VanDyke has the most wins of the season at five, Zeke Shell has two, and Ronnie McCarty and Chad Finchum both have one victory on the season.

Chris Tunnell sits atop the Street Stock standings with one win this season. Billy Byington has dominated the Pure 4 division with six wins in eight races and leads the point standings by 27 points over John Ketron. 

Jason Yates leads the Mod 4 standings, while Marty Tunnell ranks on top in Pure Street and Trey Lane in Legend Cars.

Plenty of other fun items of interest will also be taking place on Friday night. The Kingsport Speedway Little Racers’ Club will host the first bicycle race of the season for children 9 to 12 years of age and Food City will have the high-powered Big Cart on hand.

Grandstand gates open at 5:30 p.m., qualifying is set for 7 p.m. and racing gets underway at 8 p.m. Adult admission is $10 and children 12-and-under are admitted free. Tier parking is available along turns three and four at $10 per vehicle plus admission.
