Barry Callavini and Blake Barney Take Evergreen Modified Victories

Despite the summertime heat, Sunday afternoon racing at Evergreen Raceway has proven to be successful thus far. The hot and humid weather this past Sunday didn’t keep the racers or fans from coming to the track. The first of two Evergreen Modified features kicked off the afternoon and when it was all said and done, Barry Callavini of Drums was declared the winner. The second feature went to Blake Barney of Jackson, NJ, who scored his first career win in the division. Ricky Yetter of Wilson, PA grabbed his second Dirt Modified win of the year and CJ Lehmann of Long Island took his second Pro Stock victory. Bob Azarowicz of Tunkhannock notched his first Four Cylinder win of the season and following post race tech, Bernie Uphold was awarded the Street Stock victory.

Paul Hartwig, Jr. started from the pole position in the 30-lap Evergreen Modified make up feature from 5/15. He led the opening circuit over Blake Barney, Dave Brigati, JP Curry and Eric Banashefski.

With Hartwig still showing the way, Barry Callavini cracked the top five and then overtook Curry for third following a lap seven restart. Three laps later he battled with Brigati to overtake the second spot.

Hartwig went on to take the checkers first, but he was penalized in post race tech, which awarded Callavini with the victory. Curry, Barney, Cam Ayers and Geoffrey Sutton completed the top five.

Barney started from the pole in the second feature but he was overtaken by Sutton and Ayers just after the drop of the green flag. With three laps in the books, Ayers took his shot at the lead and Barney followed through for second.

Hartwig cracked the top five and 11 laps into the event he got by Callavini for third. Meanwhile, Barney stalked Ayers for the lead. Barney made his bid for the lead on lap 16, dropping Ayers to second. One laps later Hartwig got by for second.

Barney never relinquished the lead and went on to take the checkers for his first Evergreen modified win over Hartwig, Callavini, Ayers and Sutton.

From the pole, Billy Lasko led the Dirt Modified field to the drop of the green in the 20-lap feature. He led the opening lap over Scott Adams, Ricky Yetter, Kyle Redner and John Banashefski.

A heated battle quickly ensued for the lead, which Yetter came out with on lap three.

With Yetter distancing himself from the field, Adams worked on Lasko for second. He eventually made the pass stick following a lap 11 restart.

Yetter opened the gap between himself and Adams to take his second win of the season. Lasko, Redner and Ricky Ross, Jr. completed the top five.

Heat race wins went to Yetter and Ross.

Cody Roth started from the pole and led the first circuit of the 20-lap Street Stock feature over Paul Morgan, Jr, Charlie Castiglione, Chip Wanamaker and Randy Schlenker.

Roth and Morgan continued to race side by side for the lead. That all changed when Schlenker cracked the top five and then grabbed the lead on lap 12.

Several cautions followed and the field of cars began to dwindle. Schlenker crossed the stripe first but was disqualified in post race tech, which gave the victory to Bernie Uphold. Justin Morgan, who was making his first Street Stock start, wound up in second.

Roth was the heat race winner.

Jay Skupski started from the pole and led the first lap of the Four Cylinder feature over Bob Azarowicz, Kyle Williams, Ron Heeter and Frank Hughes, Jr.

Following a quick yellow and a lap one restart, Hughes climbed to second and Brayden Spencer moved to third. Just a few laps later, Spencer got by Hughes for second and reeled in the leader.

In an attempt at his pass for the lead, Spencer touched Skupski and he spun. The lap seven incident gave the lead to Hughes and Spencer and Skupski had to join the rear of the field.

Hughes held the point over Devin Schmidt following the restart, followed by Azarowicz, Pete Verwys and Heeter, but shortly after both Azarowicz and Heeter got by D. Schmidt.

The three battled for the lead and following plenty of paint trading between Heeter and Hughes, Azarowicz came out with the lead and eventual win. Heeter, D. Schmidt, Verwys and Skupski completed the top five.

Hughes and D. Schmidt were heat race winners.

CJ Lehmann took the Pro Stock heat race victory and the cruised to the checkers over Blaine Barry and Charlie Castiglione.
