Mother Nature Wins At Greenville-Pickens Speedway Saturday Night

Saturday night’s NASCAR Whelen All American Series racing program at the Greenville-Pickens Speedway was called due to heavy rain that moved into the area just as the day’s practice session was ending.

The Twin 75-lap portion of the program for the NASCAR late model stock division will be rescheduled, with an announcement of the reschedule date expected to come early this week.

Track officials waited as long as they felt they could to see if the rain would stop so the track could be dried, but it became obvious that the drizzle was not going to let up and more storms were expected later in the evening so the decision was made to call the show.

Several late model competitors from outside the region, including Tommy Lemons, Jr., Landon Huffman and Virginia’s Nick Leitz, were on hand to do battle with the track’s regulars, but that battle will have to wait.

“It’s never an easy decision to call a show,” Track Promoter Anthony Anders said.  “We really wanted to race tonight, especially because we had so many racers who had traveled so far to run with us.  We really appreciate them making the trip and we would welcome them back anytime they want to come and run.  We’ll reschedule the late model twin features and announce it as soon as we can so everyone can get it on their calendar.”

Next Saturday, May 7th, the limited late models will return to the “Historic Half-Mile” for a 50-lap feature, with the four-cylinder, super stock, renegade and pure stock divisions also scheduled.

There will also be a meet and greet for the four-cylinder and pure stock divisions.  Gates will open at 4pm, with race time at 7pm.
