“This promotion definitely fits the world’s best, larger than life promoter,” said Jerry Caldwell, executive vice president and general manager, for Bristol Motor Speedway. “Bruton has done so much to make Bristol Motor Speedway the powerhouse it is today and we think this is the perfect way to salute his work.”

Smith, executive chairman of Speedway Motorsports, purchased Bristol Motor Speedway on Jan. 22, 1996 from Larry Carrier for a purchase price of $26 million. With his vision, Bristol has grown into one of the largest and most renowned sports venues in the world. Smith will be inducted into the Hall of Fame during the 2016 Induction Ceremony, which will be held tomorrow afternoon, Jan. 23, at 2:30 p.m.

The Food City 500 is scheduled for Sunday, April 17.
