Three sets of twin races and seven total races. That’s what will be served up Saturday night, Aug. 1 when South Boston Speedway hosts the “Italian Delight Family Restaurant presents Frutopia Not Just Frozen” NASCAR Late Model Twin 75s racing program.
The first of the seven events scheduled on the historic four-tenths mile asphalt oval will get underway at 7 p.m.
To honor all emergency services personnel, South Boston Speedway officials have announced they will all be admitted to Saturday’s event for $5.
The featured attractions of the night will be a pair of 75-lap races for the drivers in the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division.
Twin 25-lap races are also scheduled Saturday night for the Limited Sportsman Division. The Budweiser Pure Stock Division will be running twin 15-lap races and rounding out the night of racing will be a 15-lap event for the competitors in the Budweiser Hornets Division.
Former South Boston Speedway champion Matt Bowling, a two-time winner at America’s Hometown Track this season, will try to continue his bid for another track championship when the drivers in the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division hit the track Saturday night.
Bowling owns a 37-point lead over two-time NASCAR Whelen All American Series national champion Lee Pulliam in the battle for the 2015 track championship. Pulliam, who has racked up five wins this season at South Boston Speedway, is also a former track champion at America’s Hometown Track.
Austin Thaxton sits in third place in the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division, while Bobby McCarty is fourth and Juan Garcia is fifth.
Heading into Saturday night’s twin races for the Limited Sportsman Division, Danny Willis Jr., the division’s two-time defending division champion, is 24 points ahead of Trey Crews in the battle for the 2015 crown.
Joey Throckmorton is third in the standings and only trails Crews by 11 points. Rounding out the top five in the chase for the championship are Billy Myers in fourth place and Calvin Meadows in fifth.
Greg Autry will carry a 37-point cushion into Saturday’s twin races for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division. Autry has built the advantage over second-place Johnny Layne.
Sitting in third place, just 13 points behind Layne and five points ahead of a fourth-place tie between D.J. Moser and Harrison Walker is Stuart Crews.
Eric Winslow sits atop the standings in the Budweiser Hornets Division. He is 17 points ahead of Kenny Mills. Kirstin Simmons and Kevin Currin are tied for third place in the championship chase. The two are just four points ahead of fifth-place Kaitlinn Simmons.
Registration and pit gates will open Saturday at 2 p.m. with practice for all division scheduled from 3:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 5 p.m. and qualifying time trials will get cranked up at 5:30 p.m.
Adult admission is $10. Children, ages six and under, will be admitted free with an adult.
