Better to be lucky than good In motorsports was truly the case for Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca and its Facebook account this past Wednesday when the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile drove two laps on the iconic circuit.
The Wienermobile had been on display at the Casa Munras Hotel & Spa in Monterey earlier in the day before it was driven to Mazda Raceway by its crew of Hotdoggers. Mazda Raceway CEO/GM Gill Campbell then paced the Wienermobile around the 2.238-mile track in her Mazda MX-5, providing the photograph and video opportunity for local media and raceway staff.
In less than 48 hours, a Facebook posting of the event showing the Wienermobile traversing the world famous Corkscrew turns reached more than 850,000 people, and garnered 7,147 likes, 538 comments and 2,433 shares, and rising hourly. Multiple video segments on KSBW TV8 newscasts that evening and the next morning, as well as a photo of the event on the front page of Thursday’s edition of The Monterey County (Calif.) Herald added a strong local media outreach.
