The following is a statement from Sonoma Raceway President and General Manager Steve Page on the passing of Bob Piccinini, the long-time chairman and CEO of Save Mart Supermarkets.
Save Mart has served as the title or co-title sponsor of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event in Sonoma since 1992, making the company one of the longest running race sponsors in all of NASCAR.
“We all leave a wake of some kind from the time we spend on this Earth. Bob Piccinini left a big cannonball splash. It would be impossible to count the people who have been blessed by Bob’s influence, whether from his brilliance in building businesses, his commitment to his community, his generosity as a friend or just his infectious laugh.
Bob always said, ‘If you’re going to be a bear, be a grizzly.’ He was one of a kind; the biggest grizzly of them all, and we’ll not see another like him.”
