Cold weather postpones racing at MIR for third weekend

The continued rash of cold weather has pushed the start of Memphis International Raceway’s (MIR) season for a third time. The forecast temperatures hovering around the freezing mark combined with the possibility of more rain during the weekend has led MIR to call off Saturday’s Test N Tune session and Sunday’s Summit Bracket Racing Series presented by COMP Cams race.

“We’re as eager as everyone else to get the season going,” said MIR VP and GM Pam Kendrick. “But with all the cold and the ice we’ve gotten recently our crew hasn’t been able to prepare the track for opening.  We want to start the season on a positive note and making sure the facility is ready for the racers, fans and team is our No. 1 priority.

“You hear third time’s a charm, we’re hoping this third time pushing things back will be the charm and those no better way to do it than with a full weekend of racing.”

The season is currently scheduled to kick off on the weekend of March 7-8 with a newly added Test N Tune and Summit Bracket Racing Series presented by COMP Cams.  The doubleheader weekend will feature Rick’s Powder Coating Super Pro, B&B Towing Pro/Footbrake, RT Turbines DOT/Street, RT Turbines Junior Dragster, Top ET 1/4-mile and the 2nd Hand Power Stock/SuperStock classes.

The Test N Tune session on Saturday, March 7 will run from noon-4 p.m. On that day, the gates will open at 11:30 a.m. for the Test N Tune. That event immediately will roll into the Summit Bracket Racing Series presented by COMP Cams with time trials at 5 p.m. If you are a crew or spectator ticket holder for the Test N Tune, it will be valid for the Summit Bracket Racing Series presented by COMP Cams. The racer entry for Test N Tune will be $20 and race entry is based on class.

MIR Drag Strip Operations Manager Paul Cartwright said that every effort will be made to reschedule the three postponed Summit Bracket Racing Series presented by COMP Cams events at some point during the year. An announcement on when those dates will be rescheduled will be coming soon.
