NASCAR driver Kyle Busch is no stranger to speed. On Monday, he experienced a different type of speed – in a different type of vessel.
Homestead-Miami Speedway teamed up with the Miss GEICO Superboat team today to teach Busch how to pilot one of the fastest boats in the world. Captaining the Miss GEICO Superboat, Busch hit speeds of nearly 150 mph on the waters of Biscayne Bay in Miami, driving with the Miss GEICO Superboat throttleman Scott Begovich, an eight-time world champion.
“This is great. This thing drives nice,” Busch said. “This turning right thing is a little out of the ordinary, but I could do this.”
Following a lunch at Hard Rock Café in Bayside, Busch gave rides to fans and sponsors in the Thriller Miami, a powerful catamaran that takes fans on an offshore adventure through Biscayne Bay, South Beach, Fisher Island and Key Biscayne.
Busch will be competing at Homestead-Miami Speedway in the Ford EcoBoost 400, NASCAR’s championship finale, November 16. Busch qualified for the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup with his win at Auto Club Speedway earlier this year, and has one Top-5 and three Top-10s in nine races at Homestead-Miami Speedway. His most recent win at Homestead-Miami Speedway came in the 2013 Ford Championship Weekend, with a win in the Ford EcoBoost 200 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race.
The event was part of the NASCAR Victory Tour in preview of the Ford EcoBoost 400, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series finale race November 16 at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
