NASCAR Drivers Trevor Bayne and Ryan Blaney visit Ft. Myers

NASCAR drivers Trevor Bayne and Ryan Blaney visited Florida’s West Coast today, in advance of Ford Championship Weekend, which will be held November 14-16 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Bayne drives in both the NASCAR Nationwide and NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, while Blaney competes in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and the Nationwide Series.

The visit included a trip to South Fort Myers High School, where Bayne and Blaney answered questions and spoke to a group of more than 50 high school automotive shop and engineering students. The students were able to ask questions, and learn about the workings of the official Homestead-Miami Speedway pace car, a Ford Mustang Shelby GT 500.

The drivers then visited Golisano Children’s Hospital, where they visited with patients in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and Pediatric Oncology Unit. Golisano Children’s Hospital is the largest pediatric hospital in Florida between Tampa and Miami.

“It’s awesome that we have that demographic right now and that age group so interested in NASCAR because that’s what we need,” Blaney said about the South Ft. Myers High School visit.

“They’re not worried about whether you’re going to win a championship or not, they’re worried about their favorite color so it’s always cool and humbling to come here,” Bayne said about the Golisano Children’s Hospital visit.

Bayne became the youngest winner of the Daytona 500 when he captured the prestigious race in 2011 at 20 years and one day. 

Blaney won the Food City 300 NNS race in Bristol, Tennessee on August 22 of this year, and then captured the Chevrolet Silverado 250 NCWTS race in Bowmanville, Ontario on August 31.  He also has two second-place finishes and a pair of third-place finishes on the truck circuit this year.  In addition, he has a second-place finish and a third-place finish in the Nationwide Series in 2014.

Homestead-Miami Speedway will host the Camping World Truck Series Championship Race (Ford EcoBoost 200) on Friday, November 14, the Nationwide Series Championship Race (Ford EcoBoost 300) on Saturday, November 15 and the Sprint Cup Series Championship Race (Ford EcoBoost 400) on Sunday, November 16.
