Bill Elliott To Be Inducted Into City of Hampton’s Speed Lane on Aug. 28; NASCAR Hauler Parade Scheduled

A 16-time winner of NASCAR’s Most Popular Driver award and a 2015 NASCAR Hall of Fame inductee, Bill Elliott continues to receive accolades for a legendary career behind the wheel of a stock car. Elliott will be inducted into the “Speed Lane” on Aug. 28 in downtown Hampton as the home city of Atlanta Motor Speedway honors the NASCAR legend at 6 p.m.

At 6:30 p.m., NASCAR Sprint Cup Series transporters will parade through downtown Hampton prior to entering Atlanta Motor Speedway’s main tunnel.

Elliott, the 1988 NASCAR champion and native of Dawsonville, Ga., has won 44 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series events. He rose to fame in 1985 when he captured the “Winston Million,” claiming a million-dollar bonus for winning events at Daytona, Talladega and Darlington.

Elliott is also the father of Chase Elliott who currently leads the NASCAR Nationwide Series points standings and has won three races this season.

1960 NASCAR champion Rex White, who currently resides in Fayetteville, was the first inductee into the Speed Lane last year. Like Elliott, he’s a 2015 NASCAR Hall of Fame inductee. White is NASCAR’s oldest living series champion.
