Austin Hill 15th after last lap melee at Greenville-Pickens

Austin Hill and his MacDonald Motorsports No. 49 team had high hopes throughout the day at Greenville and even into the early stages of the race.  After practicing his A&D Welding/Overnight Wraps.com No. 49 9th on the speed charts during the day, Austin would be quick early on in the race as well.  Hill made some nice passes to get inside the top-10, but then lost the brakes and the No. 49 and struggled through the late portion of the race.  Austin was caught up in a last corner crash involving nearly the whole field, leaving his A&D Welding/Overnight Wraps.com No. 49 mangled on the frontstretch, with a 15thplace finish.

“We had a fast race car it’s just a shame we had to destroy it on the last lap like that,” explained team owner, Jeni MacDonald, after the race.  “Austin did an excellent job for us once again though and I’m looking forward to the next time he can drive for us.”

During practice, Austin showed the speed in the MacDonald Motorsports No. 49 car, slotting in at 9th on the time sheets.  Hill would start the Kevin Whitaker 140 from 13th place, but move up into the top-10 quickly.  The MacDonald Motorsports No. 49 was flying through the field before Austin noticed his brakes were starting to go away on him.

During the final Green-While-Checkered finish, the leaders got together coming out of the final turn, leaving the entire frontstretch blocked and filled with smoke.  Hill made heavy contact in his A&D Welding/Overnight Wraps No. 49, with the car finally coming to rest against the inside retaining wall.

After the crash, Austin did make a trip to the track ambulance to be looked at.  Luckily, he was treated and released with some cuts and bruising.

“I’m still pretty sore after the crash but feeling a little better today,” explained Hill on Monday.  “I have a lot of bruising but I’m just glad it wasn’t any more serious than it was.”

The 15th place finish for the MacDonald Motorsports No. 49 team leaves them 16th in the 2012 K&N East Series owner standings.  Next week the team heads to Rockingham, NC for the final race of the 2012 season.  The Classic 3 Championship presented by RCR racing museum from Rockingham Speedway will take the green flag Saturday, November 3rd at 2PM ET.
