Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross looks for mid-season momentum at MCAS New River

Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross (VARX) wouldn’t be denied at its last outing at Daytona International Speedway, overcoming heavy damage and a car fire to earn a 1-2 finish in the weekend’s second race. Now the team intends to achieve strong results for its drivers at Red Bull Global Rallycross’s second visit to Marine Corps Air Station New River for a patriotic doubleheader this weekend.

Tanner Foust scored his third victory of the season in Daytona and hopes to bolster his lead in the championship standings with more top finishes in New River. The driver of the No. 34 Rockstar Energy Drink Beetle currently sits 32 points clear of his nearest competition as the season reaches its halfway point this weekend. “Daytona was a difficult weekend from everyone, but the VARX team rally showed what it was made of, getting us back to the top step of the podium on Sunday,” said Foust. “With that sort of effort and determination, we’re capable of anything, so I’m looking forward to a less stressful event.”

Scott Speed overcame even greater adversity than his teammate in Daytona, coming back from a fire and last-place starting position in Sunday’s Final to earn a second-place finish. After a run of bad luck stretching back to the season-opening event in Phoenix, the driver of the No. 41 Special Operations Warrior Foundation Beetle GRC is ready to make the most of what he hopes will be a trouble-free weekend. “Once again we proved how quick we are in Daytona,” said Speed. “Without the sort of gremlins we’ve been having, our results would look very different, so I’m ready to get things sorted and turn the corner for a better second half of the season.”

Speed’s Beetle GRC will wear a new livery in New River, featuring the Special Operations Warrior Foundation (SOWF) —a charity that offers college scholarships to children of fallen special operations personnel. “I’m honored to be carrying the SOWF colors this weekend as we compete at this awesome venue, honoring our troops over the holiday weekend. VARX is looking forward to raising awareness for this important organization, and we’ll be doing our best to bring home a great result for them.”

Both rounds of the doubleheader at MCAS New River will air LIVE on NBC—Saturday, July 2 at 5:00PM (ET) for Round 6, and Sunday, July 3 at 5:00PM (ET) for Round 7.
