Performance Boat Center and Wake Effects Win Big In Marathon

Race teams, fans and enthusiasts took to Marathon in the Florida Keys for the 9th Annual Super Boat Grand Prix and were treated to some of the season’s best offshore racing. Team Wake Effects took first place in the Superboat Unlimited Class while Performance Boat Center worked their way to first in the Superboat Class.

Performance Boat Center / Jimmy John’s #21 driven by Myrick Coil and 30 year veteran throttleman, Johnny Tomlinson, worked their way past WHM Motorsports for a first place finish, their second top finish of the year. The team stayed the course ahead of some great teams, WHM, Cleveland Construction, Team STIHL and Sailor Jerry.

Team Wake Effects 48’ MTI driver, Rusty Rahm and veteran offshore racer Jeff Harris (throttles), put on quite a show as fans watched the MTI 03 take a win and continue to lead in the National points race in the Superboat Unlimited Class.

Peter Meyer, owner of the AMH Construction Instigator Superboat Extreme Vee Bottom, took an uncontested win and excited the fans with the loud high performance Fountain. By far the loudest contest, the #1 is always a fan favorite.

The Florida Keys, Marathon and Faro Blanco Resort and Yacht Club played host to an amazing crowd. Fans packed the marina beachfront and the foot of the famous 7-Mile bridge and all places in between.

DSC_4784For Super Boat International President and Owner, John Carbonell, the weekend event proved to be a great event. “It was good hot Florida Keys weather all weekend and we had a great turnout of race teams and fans. This year was a fun-filled event and all our race teams really enjoyed coming here. The turn out for boats and fans was great and, as we spoke with many residents in the community, it was evident they really appreciated us coming here.”

Teams get excited racing along the famous 7-Mile Bridge with the nostalgia surrounding the bridge and years of offshore racing in the Florida Keys. This year the racing proved to be very exciting as proven by the large spectator fleet lining the two-mile long course.
