Final Visit for Rev Racing at Columbus Speedway

Rev Racing and the K&N Pro Series East head to Columbus Speedway for the NAPA 150 this Saturday, being the last time the series visits the .333-mile oval, as the track announced it will be closing at the end of 2016.

Originally opened in 1946 for motorcycle racing, Columbus Speedway has seen some great stock car racing over the past 70 years. This Saturday, Rev Racing looks to add one final victory at the historic oval in the buckeye state.

Collin Cabre is coming off a strong 6th place finish at Stafford Speedway, after qualifying problems forced him to start at the rear of the field. The driver of the No. 2 NASCAR Technical Institute Toyota believes this is a track where the team can be a strong contender, as Rev Racing has won three of the last five races there.

“I’m definitely looking forward to Columbus because the team has good history at this track,” Cabre said. “Last year it wasn’t that great for us, but this year we are coming with a whole new package, so hopefully that will be the deal breaker.”

For Ali Kern, this will be a special weekend as she will be racing in front of her home crowd and honoring Erika Newcome, a fellow racer and former NASCAR Drive for Diversity combine participant, who has been diagnosed with cancer. The Fremont, Ohio native will be running Erika’s number 33 on her Max Siegel Inc. Toyota, where she looks to improve her 14th place finish from Stafford Speedway.

“I am really excited to be a part of the last race at Columbus. I have some experience at this track and I think it will play into us being able to dial the car in fast,” Kern said. “I am also really honored to run the number 33 in honor of Erika Newcome, who was a participant in the 2015 D4D Combine and was recently diagnosed with stage four sarcoma cancer.” Donations for Erika can be made at https://www.youcaring.com/erika-newcome-585834#.V2FHqd1MkfZ.facebook.

Ruben Garcia Jr., who is coming off a victory in Mexico this past weekend, is looking to extend his top-10 finishing streak in the K&N Pro Series East. The Mexican driver achieved his third straight top-10 after a 10th place finish at Stafford Speedway.

Teammate Jario “J.R.” Avila hopes to improve his result from Stafford this weekend at Columbus. The Colombian-American driver was involved on a wreck late in the last race and finished 19th.

Two-lap qualifying for the NAPA 150 starts Saturday at 4:45 p.m., followed by the on-track autograph session and the race at 9:00 p.m. On Friday, July 2nd, drivers will also be participating in the Red, White and Boom parade at 6 p.m.
