Kyle Weatherman Survives the Heat and Winchester for Third Place Finish

ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards Sophomore driver Kyle Weatherman survived the heat and starting at the rear of the field for a third place finish in Sunday’s Herr’s Potato Chips 200 at the Winchester Speedway.

“We had a very good car on the long runs, unfortunately we didn’t get a long run at the end of the race and Dalton and Chase had better short run cars,” Weatherman explained after finishing 3rd Sunday. “The heat was brutal today that’s for sure, but that’s why we have to stay hydrated and stay in shape for grueling days like today.

“It’s great working with Mason, having him on the box makes things smoother as he understands what changes to make. A win is coming, we just have to put the whole weekend together.”

Weatherman qualified in the fifth spot but after the team discovered an electrical issue they elected to make the proper adjustments and start at the rear of the field.

It took Weatherman less than 20 laps to crack his way into the top-ten after starting from the 23rd position.

After the afternoon’s first caution on lap 48 the No. 98 crew delivered a lightening pit-stop that moved the 18-year-old into the fifth position and into the top-five for the first time.

Over the afternoon’s longest green flag run (87) laps, Weatherman moved into the third position and was running lap times quicker than the leaders.

Over the final 25 laps, Weatherman battled Tom Hessert and Matt Kurzejewski for the third position. Weatherman and Kurzejewski battled for the third spot the final five laps and Weatherman would sneak by him coming to the checkered flag to secure third and his fifth top-five finish of the 2016 season.

After a demanding six week stretch for ARCA teams and drivers, the series will enjoy a rare off weekend in the summer to allow teams to prepare for the Casey General’s Stores 150 at the Iowa Speedway on

July 9th. Teams will have two practice sessions, qualify and race. Fans will be able to watch the race live on Fox Sports 2 at 9:00 p.m. EST.
