The competitors of the PCA Club Racing Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport Trophy East series are heading to Watkins Glen International (WGI) on June 3-5, ready to face the challenges of the iconic circuit with more experience under their belts.
This is the third race of the season for the series, in which drivers race in the new, track-only Cayman GT4 Clubsport race car. The 385-horsepower, mid-engine racer, which features a sealed engine and transmission and a spec Pirelli tire, is developed by Porsche Motorsport North America and based on the successful street-legal Cayman GT4 sports car.
Nearly 20 drivers are expected to compete on the 3.4-mile, 11-turn hilltop track located in Watkins Glen, New York, at the southern tip of Seneca Lake. Drivers will race on brand-new track asphalt after the first repaving project of this magnitude was completed in mid-April at WGI.
The race marks the midseason point for the series, with three races remaining, at VIRginia Motorsports Park, Road America and Daytona International Speedway, respectively.
The event at Watkins Glen will feature three races in an exciting, varied format relative to PCA Club Racing standards. The first and second races will be 30-minute sprint races. The third race is an endurance race lasting 80 minutes.
There will be three practice sessions Friday, June 3. The third practice session at 5:30 p.m. (ET) will be used to set the grid for the first sprint race. On Saturday, June 4, the drivers will have two sprint races at 1 p.m. and 4:40 p.m. The 80-minute endurance race will start at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, June 5.
Championship and Pro competitors will receive points based on finish in their respective divisions, with podium recognition for each of the top three drivers. A Masters division also will be conducted for drivers 57 years and older.
Keith Jensen, representing the Maverick PCA Region, is aiming for more podium finishes after he swept all three races in April at NOLA Motorsports Park, winning the 80-minute endurance race and both sprint races in the No. 51 NOLAsport Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport. After a fourth-place finish in the endurance race at NOLA, Adam Merzon, representing the Connecticut Valley PCA Region, is hoping to finish on the podium with his No. 7 DeMan Motorsport Porsche at WGI.
The PCA Club Racing Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport Trophy East series highlights the spirit of PCA Club Racing and the skills of its drivers at iconic road racing venues east of the Rocky Mountains. The series provides a bridge for Porsche racers to climb to the professional ranks through this semi-professional racing series.
