Josh Williams Finishes Sixth at Toledo; Full Throttle Ahead to New Jersey Motorsports Park

Josh Williams, driver of the No. 6 Musselman’s Applesauce Chevrolet for Josh Williams Motorsports (JWM) earned a hard fought sixth place finish in the Menards 200 at Toledo Speedway.

Williams qualified tenth for the 200 lap event and wasted no time moving to the front when the green flag waved.

The 22-year-old worked his way up as high as third before halfway and appeared to be in contention for his second win of the season. He would race inside the top-five until the final 20 laps and would slide back to sixth at the checkered flag.

“We had a really good Chevy at the beginning of the race,” Williams stated.  “We made a call on pit road to take our four General tires early thinking the race would go green until the end. Unfortunately, that never happened and it cost us a top 3 finish. Nonetheless it was still a solid afternoon for us overall.”

The finish marked the ARCA veteran’s third top-ten finish of the 2016 season and remains second in driver points 40 points out of the lead.

Williams week in Toledo began on Friday afternoon when he visited with children from Toledo Mercy Children’s Hospital. Williams spent time signing autographs, arts and crafts and visiting with children from the hospital.

“We try to visit a children’s hospital at every event we go to during the course of our season,” Williams explained. “Going to see the kids and their families is a very humbling experience for myself and I really enjoy seeing their faces light up when I walk into the room. “

Next up for Josh and the No. 6 team is this weekend’s race at the 14 turn, 2.25 mile New Jersey Motorsports Park road course located in Millville, New Jersey. It marks the only road course on the ARCA Racing Series schedule for 2016. Last season Williams earned a podium finish by finishing the 67 lap event in third.

“I don’t have much road racing experience besides the races on the ARCA schedule. New Jersey is a very cool place the elevation changes in the track are what make it really unique. We have a very good road course car built by Barry Owen. He built the car for Parker Kligerman for his first ARCA road course start in 2008, hopefully we can beat him this weekend in his old car.”

The Port Charlotte, Florida native has six prior starts at NJMP with his first start coming in 2010. In his six starts Williams has one top-five and two top-ten finishes.
