NWMT Preview: Preece the man to beat at Riverhead

With the final four races left in the Whelen modified season the series moves back the Long Island’s hot bed of racing for the second time this year and a return since new ownership. While just announced a week ago long time team owners Eddie and Connie Partridge entered into an agreement to purchase the speedway, taking over as new ownership since the early 80s.

“Everybody loves Riverhead Raceway. It’s the last track on Long Island and we want to try to keep it here.” Said Eddie Partridge

Preece who drives for the Partridge’s has been on a roll this season taking the checkered flag in a late night battle around Bristol Motor Speedway last week. While leading the points Preece has raked in four wins and six top-five finishes with Pitkat in hot pursuit and separated by just two points heading into this weekend at Riverhead.

CHAMPIONSHIP BATTLE CLOSING IN

Three drivers with a heated battled have a chance to take home the crown but first they have to take to the shortest track on the schedule at a quarter mile that mishaps come quickly and can be disastrous. Last week on the half mile in thunder valley that happened with Doug Coby who early on had troubles take see him coming into Riverhead this week 32 points out the lead but still in the hunt.

Pitkat again trading the points lead for the fifth time in the season makes for an interesting battle this week where neither driver can afford a bad week.

RACEDAY LOW DOWN

The Riverhead 200 is scheduled to take the track from 3-4 pm for practice with qualifying to follow along at 5:30pm. Green flag will fly just after 8pm with a scheduled distance of 200 laps(75 miles).

Following the Riverhead 200 the series will take a month long break before returning to New Hampshire Motor Speedway on September 26th for the F.W. Webb 100 during NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Chase season.
