Quin Houff Lucas Oil Raceway Recap

Quin Houff and the LFR Driver Development Group both made debut starts when the team competed in the CRA Super Series at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis on Friday, July 24. Neither Houff nor the LFR Driver Development Group had visited the Midwestern track before their sixth place finish this past weekend.

“I think it is important that these drivers get out of their element sometimes. Quin is doing a great job in the CARS tour for us and we discussed getting him more seat time and experience at different tracks and the ORP race did both,” said Rob Fuller, team owner. “It was good to get the first race behind us in this series so we know what to expect in the future. All in all it was a great experience at every level and Quin did a great job for us again.”

Having never raced there before, Houff knew the whole weekend would be a learning experience. After practicing for 50 laps, he was feeling a little unsure about his chances to perform well at the track.

“It’s just such a different racing style with completely different lines and speeds than what I’m used to,” said Houff.  “After practice, I wasn’t sure about how we would do. I definitely didn’t think we would climb up to finish sixth.  I was mainly thinking if we could just finish the race we should be sitting in a pretty good spot.”

Houff did more than just finish the race for the LFR Driver Development Group; he managed to secure another Top-10 for the team. Houff credits much of his success over the weekend to his ability to adapt.

“I knew with it being such a new experience I needed to figure out a way to adapt. I watched a lot of the other drivers to see what lines they were running and what they were doing out on the track,” Houff said. “I can adapt quickly once I see what others are doing. I guess you could say I’m really good at chasing a rabbit when I see one.”

Overall, Houff says he had a great time at the Midwestern track and can’t wait to return.

“It was a fun experience racing somewhere so far from home. The crowd was great. The racing was something new and it was a cool place,” he said. “Of course, having raced there now, I want to go back and see what we can build on with that experience!”

Aside from the racing, Houff also had a special guest with him at the track that weekend. His mother was able to attend the race despite having a chemotherapy treatment earlier that week.

“It’s always special when she gets to visit the track. The paint scheme is all for her, so it’s nice for her to be there to see it and me do well,” said Houff. “Obviously, running really well at the track while she’s there is just an added bonus.”

Houff’s next race will be back with the Super Late Model division of the CARS Tour at Orange County Speedway on August 1. Fans can follow along for updates on Houff through his Quin Houff Motorsports Facebook page, on Twitter at @P1_Houff and Instagram at @P1_Houff.
