McCumbee ST Pole In CJ Wilson Racing Mazda

Chad McCumbee gave CJ Wilson Racing its first TOTAL Pole Award of the season, leading the Street Tuner (ST) competitors with an ST track record lap of 58.806 seconds (93.664 mph) in the No. 5 ModSpace Mazda MX-5 co-driven by Stevan McAleer.

It was the fifth consecutive ST pole for a Mazda MX-5. While McCumbee had a .568-second gap on four-time 2015 pole winner Justin Piscitell, the next 15 cars were within one second in the competitive session.

“We unloaded good and kept getting better,” McCumbee said. “We made a lot of changes – obviously, in the right direction. We’re making gains week to week, building an awesome notebook.”

Piscitell was second with a lap of 59.374 seconds (92.768 mph) in the No. 34 Alara Racing Mazda MX-5, followed by Jeff Mosing at 59.389 seconds (92.744 mph) in the No. 56 Murillo Racing Porsche Cayman.

McCumbee and McAleer enter the event second in the ST standings, 11 points behind leaders Liam Dwyer – who qualified 15th in the No. 26 SemperFiFund.org Mazda MX-5 – and Andrew Carbonell.

Saturday’s two-hour combined race for the GS and ST classes will take the green flag at 10 a.m. ET, and will be streamed live on IMSA.com.
