Jones Races Through the Field for Fifth-Place Finish at Bristol Motor Speedway

Making his 2015 season debut in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East (NKNPSE), Brandon Jones entered this weekend’s event at Bristol Motor Speedway looking to secure his second-career win in the MasterForce Chevrolet. After starting at the rear of the field, Jones battled through two- and three-wide racing to return to the fifth position by the time the checkered flag waved.

Unloading at his first NKNPSE race of the year, Jones and his MasterForce team from NTS Motorsports immediately proved that they would be a threat to earn the trophy on Saturday afternoon. Finishing opening practice eighth on the board and improving to the second position by the conclusion of final practice, Jones was set to go out first in qualifying. Posting a 15.893-second lap in his MasterForce Chevrolet SS, Jones’ time secured him the second starting position for Saturday’s PittLite 125. Unfortunately, unapproved adjustments resulted in the No. 33 team being sent to the rear of the field prior to starting Saturday’s race. The MasterForce Chevrolet took the green flag in the 28th position and Jones immediately began taking advantage of two-and three-wide situations to pick up as much track position as possible. The young driver moved into the top-15 just prior to lap 30, and found himself inside the top 10 by the lap 62 caution period. With his MasterForce Chevrolet just a bit loose, the NTS Motorsports team gave their car fuel and a slight chassis adjustment during the halfway break before sending Jones back on the track. When the race returned to green-flag conditions, Jones continued to make some bold moves in three-wide racing to climb into the top-five by lap 100. Battling for position became tougher and tougher as the laps clicked by, as the entire field raced on worn tires. Despite the challenges, Jones was able to hold on during the final laps to cross the finish line in the fifth position.

Brandon Jones on Bristol Motor Speedway:

“Bristol Motor Speedway has always been one of my favorite tracks, and to be so competitive from the time we unloaded was certainly a lot of fun. Our MasterForce Chevrolet was so fast all weekend. Having to come from the back of the field today was pretty interesting, but it was a good learning experience. This race is so short; it’s a sprint all day. While we didn’t get the win we hoped for, having to be up on the wheel all 125 laps, fighting for positions and making passes was probably the best experience I could get here. I think that will help us a lot when we come back in August for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and NASCAR XFINITY Series races. I’m very grateful that we had this opportunity to work with MasterForce Tool Storage and NTS Motorsports, and can’t thank everyone enough for the great racecar they built for us.”
