Cars Under The Stars Celebrates Palm Beach International Raceway’s 50th Anniversary 2nd Annual Live Auction, Dinner and Concert To Benefit Place Of Hope

The 2nd Annual Cars Under The Stars event on Saturday, November 22, 2014, celebrates Palm Beach International Raceway™’s (PBIR) 50th Anniversary while benefiting Place of Hope, Palm Beach County’s largest child welfare agency. From race car experiences on PBIR’s Road Course to a classic rock concert, Cars Under The Stars offers motorsports enthusiasts an evening of festive entertainment – all to benefit foster children and youth who have been displaced from their homes due to abuse, neglect, and abandonment. This year, the event is generously underwritten by presenting sponsors Lamborghini Palm Beach and Lexus of Palm Beach.

Among the race car drivers who are kindly donating their cars and time to this cause – by offering ride-alongs to the public in exchange for donations to Place of Hope – are Shane Lewis, Derek Bell, Brian Redman and Guy Cosmo. Shane Lewis serves as the Resident Professional Driver for the Palm Beach Driving Club at Palm Beach International Raceway. In 2013, Lewis claimed victories in the prestigious Rolex 24 at Daytona and the Dunlop 24H Dubai. His impressive resume also includes race victories in championships throughout the world including the American Le Mans Series, the European Le Mans Series, the Rolex Sports Car Series, SCCA World Challenge, Continental Challenge, VLN and the World 24hr Series.

With a legendary resume in sports car racing, Derek Bell has won the 24 Hours of Le Mans five times, the Daytona 24 Hours three times and the World Sportscar Championship twice. Recently, Bell was inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America, followed a year later by an induction into the Le Mans 24 Hours Drivers Hall of Fame.

Beginning his professional career with Formula One, Brian Redman won the SCCA/USAC Formula 5000 Championship three years in row, the 12 Hours of Sebring twice, and the 1981 IMGA GT championship. In 2002, Redman was inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America in the sports cars category.

Guy Cosmo won the 2005 ALMS Rookie of the Year award in LMP2 and has since maintained a reputation as a first-class professional and proven front-runner in both the Prototype and GT ranks. Cosmo has 54 starts in the American Le Mans Series including 4 wins.

“This very unique event offers the opportunity to directly affect the at-risk children of Palm Beach County,” noted Ken Fengler, Vice President and General Manager of the Palm Beach Driving Club. “The 50-year history of PBIR will be celebrated with on-track activity, food, drinks and music – all to benefit Place of Hope.”
