Dick Moroso Memorial 5-Day Bracket Championship Attracts Competitors From Across the Country

Beginning the weekend before the Thanksgiving holiday, the Dick Moroso Memorial 5-Day Bracket Championship returns to the Drag Strip at Palm Beach International Raceway™ (PBIR) on November 21 – 25, 2014. Presented by Madaris Window & Insulation and The Screen Shop, the Championship consists of daily 1/4-mile competitions where drag racers from around the country come to PBIR to earn bracket points and vigorously vie for more than $77,000 in cash, trophies and prizes.

“In 2013, these annual bracket races were named the 5-Day Bracket Championship Featuring the Triple $20s. For this year, we wanted to pay homage to the influential founder of the Five-Day Bracket Race and the former namesake of the facility,” said Dale Gann, Vice President and General Manager of PBIR. “He remains one of the most well-known and revered men in motorsports. It was a tremendous loss and heartbreak for the racing community when he died of brain cancer in 1998, at the young age of 59.”

Dick Moroso was a champion drag racer, car owner and sponsor, but was best known for the aftermarket parts he created, as the founder of Moroso Performance Products. He purchased Moroso Motorsports Park in 1981 which was renamed Palm Beach International Raceway in 2008. The first of the big money bracket races, the Five-Day Bracket Race was created by Dick Moroso in 1982 and held at his track as a showcase for the grassroots racer; it was widely considered the most significant bracket race in the country for decades.

Sponsors of the Dick Moroso Memorial 5-Day Bracket Championship at PBIR include: Madaris Window & Insulation, The Screen Shop, Sunoco Race Fuels, Lucas Oil Products, Holley Performance Products, Dixie Racing Products, MotorSports Innovations, and FTI Converters.

Holley Performance Products of Bowling Green, Kentucky will be providing a $100 gift certificate for the first perfect reaction time during eliminations, for each day of the event. Additionally, those racers have a chance at a second $100 gift certificate if their final run also has a perfect light on the tree.

Dixie Racing Products of Hendersonville, North Carolina is offering one Ohlins TTX36 shock valued at $1,100 to the points winner of the Championship. The five winners of each of the daily races will receive a Dixie solenoid shifter kit valued at $159.

MotorSports Innovations of Hainesport, New Jersey will award a $300 gift certificate to the points winner of the Championship, while the best losing package over the five race days receives a $200 gift certificate.

FTI Converters of DeLand, Florida will give a $500 gift certificate toward the purchase of any transmission or torque converter to the points winner. An additional $500 gift certificate toward the purchase of any transmission or torque converter will be up for grabs by raffle as well. As part of the contingency program in which the racer’s vehicle must have the product installed and a decal displayed, each day’s winner will receive $100, and each day’s runner-up earns $50.

Located in Two Rivers, Wisconsin, Hansen Global, owned by racer Don Hansen, is also supporting the Championship by providing SAE and Metric Wrench Racks in the goodie bags for racers and a full set of Socket Trays for each of the 5 daily race winners.

“Many thanks to our supporters for making all of this possible and providing such incredibly generous gifts to our racers,” noted Gann. “We especially want to extend our gratitude to Madaris Window & Insulation and The Screen Shop for being the title sponsor and presenting sponsor of the event respectively and also for supporting the track year-round.”
