Sharp driving was the key as Sharp Transportation presented the All Star Championship weekend at Rocky Mountain Raceway for the ASA Pro Trucks

Sharp precise driving is what series veteran and 2013 champion Scott Luttmer would have to do if he wanted to catch the defending champion and current point leader “JP” Johnny Pierre. As the series made its way to Rocky Mountain Raceway for the final point event of the 2014 season a twenty point gap separated Luttmer and Pierre. After night one Luttmer had captured the main event win and closed the gap to a narrow six point deficit to the defending champion. The night went caution free for the ASA Pro Trucks. Luttmer started in the eighth position in the fifty lap main and took over the lead from pole setter Kendel Woll on lap 29.

The second day of the Sharp Transportation All Star Champions Weekend saw the first caution of the weekend for the series as third place contender Drew Reitsma and Luttmer battled for the same real-estate in the eight lap heat race. Before it was over Reitsma found the number 06 planted hard in the turn two wall with his hopes for a top three in the final point standings slipping away. After several offers of trucks for Reitsma to continue the challenge in the point race. The team decided to sit out the final main event of the season and focus on the invitational in Las Vegas scheduled for October 24th and 25th. Luttmer was able to continue but was off the pace finishing just ahead of Reitsma at the tail end of the field.

After the qualifying and heat race points were calculated the gap that was separating the championship battle was a close nine points. Pierre’s second place qualifying effort set him up to potentially gain the most passing points of the two but, Luttmers starting position set him up for what could be the most position points. The green flag fell with Pierre starting on the rear bumper of Luttmer. An early caution for the ASA Pro Truck of Bret Adams as it came to rest without power low on the backstretch apron. A quick realignment and the caution cone was introduced and both drivers went low with Pierre at the rear of Luttmer. After clicking off a few laps the number ten driven by Michael Hillock spun coming off turn two bringing the second caution of the night. Pierre went high at the caution cone and gained a positon on Luttmer who went low. The low line proved to be the line that went forward and Luttmer moved towards the front following. Rookie point leader Daniel Shirley. Shirley made his way to the front by lap twenty nine and never looked back. Luttmer struggled trying to get around Mason Newhouse another rookie contender. Eventually making the pass for second on lap forty seven of fifty but it was too late as Shirley had clearly checked out on the field and solidified his Rookie of the Year status.
