ARCA: Talladega Race Preview

This weekend the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards will head to the Talladega Superspeedway for the International Motorsports Hall of Fame 200. This will mark the fourth event for the series this year and will be the final plate race for the series in 2014.

Entry list:

The entry list this weekend features a total of 37 drivers, with one of those going home following qualifying today afternoon. A few notables include, Bobby Gerhart, John Wes Townley, Austin Wayne Self, Spencer Gallagher, Justin Boston, Frank Kimmel, Tom Hessert and Grant Enfinger.

Storylines:

This weekend the ARCA Racing Series will debut their own version of knockout qualifying at Talladega. After the practice session on Friday morning, ARCA will put the cars in groups of six, depending on where they end up in practice. ARCA will run each group on track for a total of ten minutes, which is exactly what NASCAR did for qualifying on road courses. Coverage of qualifying will not be televised, but can be heard live on Thunder 92.7 at the track or by visiting: radio.securenetsystems.net/v5/WTDR.

Grant Enfinger heads into the International Motorsports Hall of Fame 200 looking to score his fourth win of the season. Enfinger, so far, has this season locked up as he won the first three events of the year. Last weekend at Salem, Enfinger just barely won the event after the race leader, which was Ken Schrader, blew a tire with about a lap remaining.

10-time ARCA Racing Series champion, Frank Kimmel, heads into Talladega hoping to continue his top-five finishing streak with his new team, Win-Tron Racing. Kimmel has struggled so far in qualifying as his best starting spot has been 13th at Mobile, but has showed speed during the race. He heads into this weekends race as the defending race winner and hopes to score that first win with his new racing team.
