Kenzie Ruston ready for action at New Smyrna

Kenzie Ruston is poised to compete for wins and the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East Championship when the season begins Sunday, February 16th at New Smyrna Speedway. Ruston is no stranger to New Smyrna; she has nine starts in the past three years. Although victory has alluded her at the track, she has no shortage of confidence heading into the New Smyrna 150 presented by JEGS.

“I feel really confident about New Smyrna”, said Ruston. “When I signed my deal with Ben Kennedy Racing, I knew how strong they (Ben Kennedy Racing) were, and I really like New Smyrna so we should be strong for the race.” Last season, Kenzie competed in the World Series of Stock Car at New Smyrna. After an unfortunate mishap in the first night of action, she went on to three straight nights of solid top-5 and top-10 finishing positions. Kenzie’s strong results in 2013 are one driving force for her confidence. Another source of confidence for Kenzie is crew chief Mike Fritts, whose experience as a race car driver and crew chief adds an important layer to the young driver’s education

The New Smyrna 150 will mark the NASCAR K&N Pro Series first trip to the speedway; however, crew chief Mike Fritts is no stranger to the famed short track. Fritts isn’t one to brag about his success, but he has seen victory lane at New Smyrna Speedway many times as a driver, now he looks to build the winning recipe to take Kenzie Ruston and Ben Kennedy Racing to victory lane at the famed half-mile.

The New Smyrna 150 will be televised in a delayed, one-hour format on, Saturday February 22nd at 9am. Kenzie begins her second full season in the

NASCAR K&N Pro Series after a successful rookie campaign, posting four Top-5’s and six Top-10’s in only 14 starts. Ben Kennedy Racing features a team full of experience, and all that experience is focused on one car. As Crew Chief Mike Fritts said “it’s 100% about Kenzie this year. As a team we are going to do whatever it takes to help her win races and the championship at the end of the season.”
