Sebastian Vettel’s Breath-Taking Yet Predictable Performance on 2013 Formula 1 Season

Sebastian Vettel’s performance with Red Bull throughout the 2013 Formula 1 (F1) season may have been a little predictable in terms of the sheer regularity of the results, but in terms of achievement, breath-taking would be a more accurate way to describe it.

 

The German driver’s characteristically textbook triumph on the final day of the season at the Brazilian Grand Prix was his thirteenth in eighteen races capping a magnificent season. Amazingly it was Vettel’s ninth successive Grand Prix triumph; only the second time a driver has achieved such a coup since the Italian Alberto Ascari’s similar run of victories which spanned the 1952 and 53 seasons.

 

Fernando Alonso’s hopes of stopping Vettel were dashed when the rain that was predicted to fall over the Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace in Sao Paulo did not occur, leaving the Ferrari driver to limp home in third place. Whatever Alonso might have been able to do was just not meant to be. Significantly, given the high performance of Ferrari cars in wet weather, another race in dry conditions meant that the entire 2013 Grand Prix season was rain free; leaving some to wonder whether God himself is a Red Bull fan.

 

Brazil was significant for Red Bull for another reason than Sebastian Vettel’s shattering of records. In an exemplar of Red Bull’s total domination, Vettel was followed home by Red Bull team mate Mark Webber in the veteran Australian’s farewell Grand Prix race in career spanning 215 races, nine victories and 41 podium places. It was Red Bull’s fourth occasion in which its drivers had managed to grab first and second spot on the podium; a truly remarkable feat.

 

And so we move on to the F1 betting events for the forthcoming 2014 season. With the gracious Webber out of the picture, the three leading contenders for the 2014 Drivers’ Championship present a stellar cast possessing awesome strength, skill and speed. Of course Vettel is the main contender, but expect a much stronger challenge from Alonso in 2014; surely the rain can’t hold off for another full season? Meanwhile former champion Lewis Hamilton, driving in the Mercedes, will be hungrier and better equipped than ever to regain his world crown. Meanwhile William Hill has Red Bull evens for the 2014 Constructors Championship, followed in turn by Mercedes and Ferrari at 9/4 and 4/1.
