Nur Ali to Skip Texas; Returns in Phoenix

After much consideration, Fort Worth’s Nur Ali has decided to withdraw his entry for the November 3 O’Reilly Auto Parts Challenge NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Texas Motor Speedway. His next race in the series will be on November 10 in the Great Clips 200 at Phoenix International Raceway.

“This was a difficult decision but one I feel will ultimately allow me to further my NASCAR career,” said Ali. “I’m committed to establishing myself as a NASCAR driver but sometimes you need to take a step back in order to reach that goal. It is no secret that I struggled a bit in my debut in Kansas. The step up to NASCAR is quite large and I’m faced with a steep learning curve. Following the race, I had several discussions with NASCAR officials as well as with team owner Rick Ware about the best course of action. We all felt it would be best if I gained more experience on a smaller track before I return to speedway racing. I will race in Phoenix and if all goes well, I will race in Homestead.”

Prior to setting his sights on a career in NASCAR, Ali spent several years competing internationally. He was the driver for Team Pakistan in the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport during the 2006-2007 season. He also spent eight seasons competing in the Star Mazda Series, scoring two championships.
