Roush Fenway Racing and its championship-contending driver and defending Nationwide Series champion Ricky Stenhouse Jr. look to continue an impressive streak in Nationwide Series competition at Texas Motor Speedway. The organization has captured the last four Nationwide Series races at TMS, including Stenhouse Jr.’s victory during April’s O’Reilly Auto Parts 300.
In all, the organization has tallied nine Nationwide Series victories in 23 races held at Texas Motor Speedway. Stenhouse Jr. has fared well in five career starts, with three top-10 finishes as well as starting inside the top 10 in all of them. He credits team owner Jack Roush and the entire organization for the team’s success.
“The development and engineering that Roush Fenway has done over the years, especially in the Nationwide cars, I feel like they really push really hard to figure out the aero packages of these cars,” Stenhouse Jr. said. “That plays a big role here at Texas. Here as of late, bringing on the FR9 and the Roush Engines has definitely helped. This is a track where you need a lot of motor and you always want more. Great drivers like Matt Kenseth, Greg Biffle and Carl (Edwards) they’re really successful and that’s contributed also.”
Stenhouse Jr., who is six points behind championship leader Elliott Sadler, feels Texas Motor Speedway could provide the momentum the team needs to successfully defend their Nationwide Series title. While the organization’s success makes him an early favorite, he understands that earning his second championship will not be easy.
“It’s going to be tough,” Stenhouse Jr. said. “This whole year has been tough and really tight. I feel confident in our equipment and the race tracks that we left. It’s going to be hard racing until the end and try not to make mistakes.”
