Mike Wallace and unsponsored No. 01 team looking for concrete day in Dover - Speedway Digest

With the Fall season officially started on the calendar, that’s the one thing the No. 01 Chevrolet team of Mike Wallace doesn’t want to do in the Driver’s Standings on the NASCAR Nationwide Series schedule.

Even though they are rolling to Dover International Speedway without sponsorship on their car, that doesn’t mean they’re without inspiration to do well. Joining the JD Motorsports team w/Gary Keller team this weekend will be Brad Teague in the No. 4 Tradebank Chevrolet.

Wallace, a past winner at the concrete, high-banked oval has enjoyed measurable success at the New England track. Teague, a one-time winner in NASCAR Nationwide Series, is looking to add his veteran experience to the team’s efforts, as well.

Mike Wallace Info:

· This will be the St. Louis-native’s 444^thNNS career start
· For the 2012 season, he’ll be taking his 28^thgreen flag on Saturday
· Finishing an impressive 4,573 of 4,828 laps (94.7 percent) contested, Wallace has led five races for nine circuits
· With one top-10 finish (Montreal) and nine top-20s in the last 11 races, they’ve remained 12^th in points where they trail 11^th by 22 markers
· This will be Wallace’s 28^th start at Dover where he has one victory (1994), four top-fives and seven top-10 finishes
· His best start was eighth in 1996 and he’s completed 4,999 of 5,623 laps (88.9 percent) and led five races for 82 laps at the Monster Mile

Brad Teague Info:

· The native of Johnson City, Tenn. is making his 236^th career NNS start on Saturday and fourth of the 2012 season
· When the green flag flies, it will be Teague’s 20^th start at Dover where he has led 92 lap, has one top-five and four top-10 finishes with a best start of fifth in 1985 and finish of fifth in 1988

There will be only practice session on Friday, which runs from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. ET, and will air on SPEED TV. Qualifying takes place on Saturday at Noon on SPEED TV and race action is on ESPN2 at 3:30 p.m. with MRN Radio and Sirius XM NASCAR Radio Ch. 98 carrying all 200 circuits of action.

Mike Wallace Quotes: “Dover, to me, has always been one of those tracks where I’ve just really enjoyed racing. The concrete has such a different feel than asphalt and Dover was just a place I adapted to from the first time I raced there.

“We have one practice to get it right on Friday, but its two hours long and we have to make the most of our time and laps. Newt (Moore, crew chief) and the team have really been working on improving every aspect of our race each week. The best part is – and I know I’ve said 100 times before – this team just doesn’t quit trying.

“We want to do well to attract some sponsorship to our car, we want to do well to show ourselves how good we are and we want to do well for Johnny (Davis, team owner). He deserves a good finish more than anyone. So, it’s off to Dover we go with our goals.”

Defending the Talladega Truck Series win:“As of right now, I don’t have a ride for the Truck Series race (October 6) coming up on the schedule at Talladega. That was such a blast last year winning like we did teaming up with Ron Hornaday for that race. I’ve been making some calls and putting some feelers out, and I’m taking calls from interested teams, too. We’re (NNS) are off that weekend, so I’m available to race.”

Matt Wallace Update: “My son, Matt, finished second in points this year at Lebanon I-44 Speedway in the Late Model division last weekend. Not bad with three wins to his credit for his first year racing Late Models.”
