Kyle Busch No. 54 Monster Energy Texas NNS Team Preview

This weekend Kyle Busch will once again attempt victory and a possible “sweep” as he runs in all three of NASCAR’s top divisions, including the NASCAR Camping World Truck, Nationwide and Sprint Cup Series. Needless to say, Busch is extremely comfortable maneuvering the Texas track and has proven his skills to be dominant.

Over his career Busch has tallied nine wins, four pole positions, 27 top-five finishes and 2,361 laps led on the Lone-Star State oval. In the Nationwide Series, Busch additionally holds the record for most poles (3), most laps led (1381), most wins (6) and most top-five finishes (13).  So far this season, Busch currently sits as the Nationwide Series driver with the most amount of laps led in 2014 (1,811, 33.46%).

In the spring Nationwide Series event at Texas Motor Speedway (TMS) in Fort Worth the No. 54 team took home a second-place finish, Busch’s 14th top-10 result in 17 races. The result didn’t come without its hurdles, as a delay in the team’s technical inspection process-caused by a rear camber number that didn’t pass NASCAR standards, forced the team to miss the first group qualifying session, which therefore recorded them out of qualifying contention. Based on points and with three other competitors also not passing NASCAR’s technical templates, Busch and his Monster Energy team started 36th at the drop of the green flag. The Monster Energy athlete used his skills to maneuver through the field towards the front and eventually led the race for 38 laps before finishing in second place, one position shy of earning another cowboy hat.

He and the now seven-time winning No. 54 JGR unit are past race winners at Texas and know how to set their car up for another strong run. Odds are the black and green Monster Energy team will once again vie for a trip to victory lane, a result needed in order to cut the deficit on the No. 22 team with the series Owner’s Championship points battle – now 31 points separate the two strong contenders.
