Jeremy Clements Racing honors memory of local fan who died from ALS

This weekend, Jeremy Clements will honor the memory of a Spartanburg, SC fan, Wayne Chapman, who passed away earlier this year from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

In August, Jacob Chapman, Wayne’s son, emailed Jeremy Clements Racing, asking for their help in honoring his father and helping to create awareness of ALS.   Jeremy and the team were honored to do what they could to pay tribute to not only a fan, but a man who dedicated his life to helping others in the community.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), more commonly referred to as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that attacks nerve cells and pathways in the brain and spinal cord.  Each year, more than 5,600 people are diagnosed with ALS, and over 30,000 may currently be affected by ALS.

A special blue and white ribbon honoring Wayne Chapman will adorn Clements’ No. 51 Chevrolet this weekend for the NASCAR Nationwide Series Kansas Lottery 200.  “I’m honored to do my part in helping to create awareness of this horrible disease”, shared Clements.

Fans are encouraged to visit www.alsa.org to learn more about ALS and ways they can support finding a cure for this disease.
