NNS: Harvick Comes Away With the Victory in the Windy City

Kevin Harvick captured his 44th career NASCAR Nationwide Series victory on Saturday afternoon at the Chicagoland Speedway after leading 43 laps. Harvick, who made his fourth start in the series today in 2014, started the race from the ninth position. He was able to work his way to the front to lead a total of two different times.

Capturing his 18th top-10 finish today, Kyle Larson had another steller performance staying upfront all day long, but just couldn’t get up there to lead a lap. This marks the second race of the year that Larson has finished a Nationwide Series race in the runner-up spot. Saturday marked the second time that he has finished inside the top-10 in four starts at the 1.5-mile oval.

Kyle Busch, who once again dominated the race by leading 141 laps, fell just shy of the victory despite leading six different times. Busch fell behind on pit strategy when Harvick took two tires and the No. 54 crew elected to take four. This caused him to fall back into the 16th position for the restart and was unable to drive back to the lead.

Nationwide Series points leader, Chase Elliott, will leave the Chicagoland Speedway with the lead by 18 points over teammate, Regan Smith. Elliott brought home his No. 9 to a 10th-place finish, while Smith finished in the eighth position, made the race much more interesting. Ty Dillon, who finished seventh, was the highest finishing Sunoco Rookie of the Year contenter of the race.

The NASCAR Nationwide Series will head next to the Kentucky Speedway on Spetember 20. You can catch the action live on ESPNEWS at 6:30 p.m. Et. The Performance Racing Network will provide the live radio coverage of the race.
